For 15+ years we've been buying toasters from garage sales since we can't find new models that meet our needs. This wct704 appears to exceed them, and looks to be a well made toaster.
We prefer the long slot toaster. For a nice wide loaf you can keep the slice intact instead of having to chop it down to fit the toast slot. Wide dual slots you can toast 4 bagel slices at once.
The lever on the side can be pushed quite high to lift bread clear. The bar that holds the bottom of the slice is wide and well supported from both sides. Each slot has a fairly dense cage of vertical wire to cradles the bread while its toasted, this keeps the bread aligned between the elements, and ensures it will actually exit the slot instead of getting stuck inside like our terrible "Toastation" experiment (go ahead, search for toastation).
There is a cancel button which I believe is important since we broke our last good toaster by forcing it to pop (with no cancel its either that or unplug it).
The heating elements are tiny filiments threaded through a board, many small elements means the toasting is very even.
I expected the metal surface to get hot but its not as bad as those solid metal toasters from the '50s.
Toaster is black plastic and chrome. Plasic is that tough heat resistant stuff. Controls have a nice feel, especially the solid round toast-setting. I've not tried the "defrost" and "reheat" buttons, there are lights behind the buttons that light up.
Finally, a comment about toasting quality: I suppose everyone has an ideal piece of toast in mind. My wife likes bread to be evenly toasted. To me the toast from this machine is a little too even and sort of boring. I think good bread tastes better with an uneven toast.
