Applica Consumer Products Inc 2Lb Breadmaker Tr555lc Bread Maker Review

Applica Consumer Products Inc 2Lb Breadmaker Tr555lc Bread Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1. It is easy to use. it does most of the work for you. The main thing is, follow the directions. Use exact amounts, IE measure with the correct containers, and you can't go wrong.
2.The bread comes out great. No chemicals or preservatives. Super home-made healthy taste you will notice. But note this: the bread is often not as sweet as store bread. It tastes a little different, so don't expect the exact same taste as you get in the store. Whether you like the bread or not is a matter of taste. The bread it makes is healthy and a little less sweet and more fresh.
3.the biggest loaf I reccomend it 1.5 lbs and not 2lbs despite the machine's advertised ability. I have not yet tried a 2lb loaf, but, the 1.5 lb loaf just about fills up the pan. Some jam recipes from sources other than this model's booklet can overflow the pan. Stick to 1.5 lb recipes as a max. The jam it makes is the "best jam I ever had".
4. cleaning takes 20 seconds.
5. saves money and prevents rip-offs.
6. Read the entire manual BEFORE you make any bread.
7.Takes some 3 hours to make a loaf.
8.Fresh bread with no chemicals, like the bread this machine makes, only stays good for about 3 days. Past that it will get stale. The breads with more starch (like whole wheat) will get stale faster as the starch crystallizes. A plastic bag tied off works better than a breadbox in staleness prevention.
So if you want healthy fresh bread, buy this beaut and you can't go wrong.

Wolfgang Puck WPIDC010 Induction-Powered Cooktop Stove Review

Wolfgang Puck WPIDC010 Induction-Powered Cooktop Stove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review should properly cover 2 areas: Induction technology and this particular stove. On both these fronts, this item does very well.
1. Induction cooking technology - only once in a great while do you come across a technology that actually is as good in practice as it sounds on paper. I was surprised by how well this technology works. I am big fan of this now, having used it for 2 days (have to convince my wife to use this more often). Amazing how quickly the pot gets hot, and how quickly any change in the temperature setting translates into a decrease in the cooking heat. This is almost magical. I am surprised more people dont use induction stoves more often- I talked to a few friends about this stove, and none of them had heard of this. On top of everything, I am sure this is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.
2. This particular stove: So far, in 2 days, I have no complaints. I looked at all the options on Amazon, and was puzzled for a while as to which one to buy. Eventually, I bought this as it was the cheapest of its kind on Amazon- and I found this to have 4 stars (of 5) on the Macy's website. I was a little afraid of what it would be like. However, it performs as promised. It has temperature settings from 150F - 400F (increments of 50F), and 1400W to 600W (increments of 200W). You can choose either way to control heat. I make tea/boil milk on this, and I can make tea in a record of 8 minutes. On my heavy duty gas burner, I would easily take 15 minutes, and I am sure it is extremely inefficient to boot.
The only downside is that it has a rather loud fan (like a microwave). Not a major downside, but this aspect was just a little unexpected.
The other downside (of the technology, not this particular stove) - you need new pots and pans. I had to spend 50$ getting a new set of iron pots. However, these were not non-stick (actually, they are non-stick..they just dont work as well as the usual non-stick pots and pans), so the cleaning is a little more cumbersome.

West Bend Countertop Convection Oven - 74766 Review

West Bend Countertop Convection Oven - 74766
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far). I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews:
Review #1: This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective.
(1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible.
(2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away).
(3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome.
I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow.
Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven.
Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one. I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself.
It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time. It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs. I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly. I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking! Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try. Just buy two ;)

Sensio 13412 Bella Cucina 18-Quart Roaster Oven Review

Sensio 13412 Bella Cucina 18-Quart Roaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this roaster because I was dreading another hot southern summer with the oven on. I love this roaster. It's a nice size. It has a removable rack. I've cooked meats and baked cookies in it. Everything turns out delicious. I can put the roaster outide and slow cook my meats; they come out browned and delicious and my house stays cool. The cookies turned out great too. If I use my toaster oven pans or smaller oven pans I can cook two things at once.
It also has a removable liner so it's super easy to clean.
The only recommendation I have is put it outside and burn it off for the first use. Reviews I read on other roasters said the same thing. It did smoke and smell terrible the first time I turned it on, so I put it outside until the smoke and smell went away before I cooked anything in it.
Other than that I have no complaints about this roaster.

The oven provides a red "on" indicator light and a simple rotary dial for adjusting the heat from 150 to 450 degrees F. Proctor-Silex 25400 Meal Maker Sandwich Toaster Review

Proctor-Silex 25400 Meal Maker Sandwich Toaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recieved this item as a gift from my neighbors. It was a true gift because I would not have purchased something like this for myself. I eventually found many uses for this little electric grill. As mentioned in the editorial review above, this grill is useful for batter based foods as well as for making sandwiches. Because we prefer hot cake, I have found it very useful for making small snack cakes. Using a standard cake mix with ordinary preparation, the bottom half of the griddle can be filled with batter. The batter will expand to fill the top as it cooks. The additional batter can be refrigerated for use the next day. The same is true of corn bread, pancake mix, browny mix, etc. The best part is the fact that the cakes will cook in just a few minutes. Pre-heating takes only 3-5 mins, and cooking about 4-8 depending on what you are working with, considerable less than the time to bake in a full size oven. This unit is also a welcome addition to the arsenal when battling toddler pickyness. Small portions of various items can be quickly prepared with out heating a full size oven. The way that it seals the bread at the seems when making sandwiches makes it useful for making healthy homemade "hot pockets" for lunches, as you control the ingredients and leave the preservatives at the store. Cresent roll dough can be stretched, doubled-over and filled. Although they are somewhat atypically shaped you get perfect omlets every time, without flipping. Simply chop/shread cheese or vegies add to scrambled eggs and fill the bottom. Although this grill has an easy to clean non-stick surface, I found it useful to wipe with an oiled cloth prior to cooking, PAM or a similar product would also work well. The effort I save putting together quick healthy lunches and snacks using this device, I have transfered to planning and preparing more elaborate meals in the evening, or entertaining.

This pan came with my Krups convection oven toaster. While the toaster is great, this pan is not. I broiled a steak on it, and when I tried to clean it off the next morning, the coating came off with the little burnt on pieces. I was using my fingers to pick off the burnt pieces, not a utensil, and the coating just flaked off under each burned part. Not a good product.

Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus 2-Pound Stainless-Steel Convection Breadmaker Review

Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus 2-Pound Stainless-Steel Convection Breadmaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading other reviews, I took my life in my hands and ordered the Breadman 2500. Fortunately, I have had no trouble with the machine at any of the stages. Having baked bread by hand regularly for over 40 years, I was surprised to find the Breadman texture quite acceptable. Here are a couple of tips I got from the company while trying to do the basic set up: 1. When you turn on the machine to "burn off manufacturing oils", take the bread pan out and leave the top of the machine open. This was not mentioned in the booklet. 2. When you set the cycle you want for a loaf, don't expect to see words like "white bread" - you get only the amount of time it takes to run the full cycle. Keep pressing "Select" until the arrow on the right stops where you want it. Then do the same with "Crust Control" and "Loaf Size". Then you're ready to push "Start". 3. After you have completed the entire baking, push the Reset button and hold down for 4 seconds. Do this as well if the electricity goes off but you are not baking, or if you unplug the machine. This precautionary measure will keep you from finding yourself in an emergency cycle.
Some people have trouble with the dough ball not picking up all the flour during kneading. My suggestion is that your dough ball isn't quite moist enough. I am creating my own recipes, especially since I like to make some breads with cooked cereal. The important thing if there is some question as to whether you have the right balance of wet and dry ingredients is to observe your dough ball during the 2nd kneading. If there is any flour in the corners that has not picked up after a few minutes, use your rubber spatula to scrape it toward the middle. If this doesn't work, I suggest using a spritzer on the dough ball until the flour adheres. If the dough is sticking a little to the sides of the pan as it goes around, begin lightly sprinkling flour on the ball until it stops doing this. The whole wheat bread, which I made precisely according to the recipe, turned out perfect, but, as I say, if you are experimenting, this is how you can bake any bread recipe you want to and it will turn out perfectly. Your dough ball should be spongy and only slightly sticky.
I hope this is helplful information for Breadman owners. The key to all good bread is learning how to recognize the look and feel of a good lump during and after kneading.
NEARLY TWO YEARS LATER:
It is July 15, 2008, and I'm still baking away. So far I've never had a failure with this machine. I have found a few corrections to the white bread recipe (for 1 1/2 lb loaf) make a better loaf. To start with, I always use King Arthur bread Flour, which a lot of Wal-Marts carry. I use 1 cup plus 3 teaspoons water instead of 2 teaspoons, 2 teaspoons of yeast rather than 1 1/2, tho 1 1/2 works fine. That little bit of extra water helps. I also probably use couple of TBS oil, rather than 1 1/2. And I use 2 teasp. salt rather than 1/1/2. It is important to know that different flours behave different ways, and different batches of flours of the same kind can need more or less moisture. This is especially noticeable using whole wheat flour. If you let the bread sit in the machine for 10-15 minutes after baking is complete, the steam softens the sides enough to dump the loaf out but doesn't leave the loaf soggy. Before I figured that out, I used a small rubber spatula to loosen the sides. Be sure you don't scrape the pan with a metal utensil as it scratches easily. Well, happy baking!!
PUSHING FIVE YEARS
March 2011: Well, here we are, still baking away. The only adjustment has been that I have upped the baking time slightly (I use the 2# setting for a 1 1/2 lb. loaf). The old relic is still performing and making perfect loaves of bread! Hey, is this thing still on the market anyway??

Bosch : HBL3450UC 30in Single Oven - Stainless Steel Review

Bosch : HBL3450UC 30in Single Oven - Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using this oven for several months. I'm a serious amateur baker and I use it quite often for baking breads and pastries. It has its strong points. It is quiet, holds its heat well and bakes evenly, especially in Convection mode. It seems well built and the controls are not overly complex. The hidden lower element makes cleaning the floor of the oven a snap. But it does suffer from some serious problems--design flaws--in my opinion. A relatively minor complaint is that when broiling, the oven cuts off power to the elements whenever the door is opened. I often use the broiler for browning the tops of casseroles, pastries etc. and I like to be able to observe the browning process directly, not through the oven glass. But as soon as the door is opened, the power to the elements is cut and they cool down. It's an unnecessary, CYA sort of safey feature.
My major complaint though is with the temperature regulating system on this oven. Most reasonable people would assume that when you set the oven to a given temperature, and when the oven beeps, indicating that it has preheated to the set temperature, it has in fact reached that temperature. With this oven that assumption would be a serious mistake. For example, if the oven is set to 350° F., its actual internal temperature at the end of the preheat period, as measured with an accurate oven thermometer, is actually only 280° to 300° F. It may take as long as 20 minutes or longer for the oven to reach the actual temperature to which it has been set. Now, if you're making a pot roast, this may not be a problem. But if you are baking bread and both temperature and baking times must be very precise, this is a disaster. Even though the owners manual clearly states that once preheating is complete--i.e. when the oven beeps and displays 5 bars--it has reached the "set temperature", it in fact hasn't even come close to the set temperature.
To its credit, once the oven does reach the set temperature, it holds that temperature very accurately and consistently. But the only way to know what the true temperature is at any given time is to use an accurate oven thermometer and a flashlight to help you read it. Unfortunately, Bosch does not supply these, even as accessories. An oven that costs $1,500 should not require the use of auxiliary equipment, supplied by the user, in order to be useable. After several fruitless conversations with Bosch technicians, I finally got one of them to admit that the oven is functioning exactly as designed (regardless of what the manual claims) and that there is nothing that can be done to change that. I continue to use the oven, always making sure to give it an extra half-hour of preheat time and then checking the internal temperature manually, but I would not buy it again.
One other point. This oven is not a true convection oven (nor does it claim to be.) In other words, in Convection Mode it uses a fan to circulate the air within the oven, producing a more even heat. But the fan is not coupled with a separate heating element as in a true convection oven. That's not a problem for me because I'm more interested in even browning than in reduced cooking times. But if you need true convection, this isn't the oven for you.

KitchenAid 2-Slice Toasters Review

KitchenAid 2-Slice Toasters

After trying and returning another manufacturer, I bought this Kitchen Aid and am extremely pleased with the quality of the materials and design. The frame of the toaster is solid and has a little weight to it, and you are able to push the two control buttons with out holding the toaster still, as I have had to do with other brands. The toasting lever has a quality motion to it, and operates very smoothly. Toast, bagels, and english muffins come out very consistently and evenly toasted, I suspect in part due to the steel lining of the deeper toasting cavity. The power cord is heavy gauge as well, complete with a 3 prong (grounded) plug. And as opposed to simply adding more time to the cycle, as other "bagel" buttons tend to do, this actually reduces power to the heating element on the uncut side of the bagel, thus it doesn't become too well done. The bottom of the toaster has 4 rubber padded "feet" so it sits securely in place, and the toaster has an overall classic but updated design. To top it all off, the toaster has totally cool sapphire blue LED's to indicate functions, desired shade, and time to complete the toasting cycle. Good Job Kitchen Aid!

I love this toaster, it's sturdy, uncomplicated, and handsome. It doesn't do anything extra, because I really didn't need and never used the extras. It is expensive, but I am sure it will last for a long long time.
